Entrepreneur
Jamie Combs Entrepreneur and founder of eatnakd came to the school to talk to 2 groups of our Y10 enterprise and business studies students. The objective was to support their leaning on: company start ups, generating a good business idea and how to manage a successful business. The timing was particularly relevant in the case of the enterprise group of students as they were preparing their Dragons Den presentation involving pitching a business start up idea for seed money.
This is what two of our students had to say:
“I thought that it was very good. His talk inspired me to really go for it and try to set up my own business. I enjoyed listening to him, to hear how he made it and his advice to help make it yourself”. – Isabelle Gardner (Year 10 Enterprise)
“I think that Jamie Coomb’s talk was really beneficial to me especially when starting our business for our own ‘Dragon’s Den’ pitch. He gave me a different viewpoint into the world of business regarding what a successful entrepreneur is and what employers would look for. Jamie Coombs also emphasised how you should always be independent; know yourself and what you want, as opposed to what others want in order to be successful. His presentation was very good and I think would help other young entrepreneurs to be independent within the world of business”, - Siobhan Longdon-Hughes (Year 10 Enterprise)
Below is a quote from Vanessa Mathew, Head of Business Studies.
‘Jamie Coombs’ presentation was highly effective. He engaged the students with a dynamic and energetic presentation that clearly explained the challenges and passions of entrepreneurship. Students and teachers alike were left feeling excited and thoughtful about what the future may hold.’
And from Jamie Combs:
“The Business & Enterprise program at Gumley House Convent School is a shining example of effective innovation in education. Schools like Gumley represent the best in education today. I am thoroughly impressed with their approach and wish more would follow their lead. Preparing the next generation to succeed has never been more important.”
