About The School

Gumley is a school founded by, and rooted in the spirituality of a religious order called the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ). The FCJ’s specialise in providing education and run schools worldwide, continuously sharing knowledge and latest expertise with each other. For example, our beautiful and first class library was designed and funded with the help of the FCJ sisters (for more information on the FCJ’s click here).

Everyone who comes to Gumley loves our green spaces. It’s a great environment in which to learn. Our lawns and gardens are a place to relax between lessons, enjoy nature and breathe a bit of fresh air!  Even though there are more than 1,100 students at Gumley it never feels crowded. We’ve got the space to provide lots of facilities on site – especially drama and sports facilities, so you don’t waste time travelling elsewhere.

International links
Gumley is proud of its links with other schools across the world. We have a particularly strong relationship with Misikhu Friends School in Kenya. Penny Seyfert, a teacher at Gumley, describes her visit with Helen Thornalley to Misikhu.
"As we toured the site, we were delighted to come across ‘Sister Brenda’ dormitory and the ‘Gumley Teaching Block’, named in honour of Gumley, and in gratitude for our financial support over the past four years through the annual 6th form walk we run in the summer term together with Gunnersbury. We were very touched by the degree of reverence and high esteem in which Gumley is held by staff and pupils alike. Mr Manyonge, the Head, emphasised how significant the link between us and Misikhu is in helping them to develop and improve the education they are able to offer their pupils. We had a tremendous sense of being a small part of something terribly worthwhile, of being privileged to give back something to a community whose life chances are so slim beside our own."

More information about our relationship with Africa can be found on our Business & Enterprise page.
