Gumley House School FCJ

Headteacher's Welcome

I’m delighted to share with you what I love most about our school.

Gumley has over 175 years of experience in Catholic education. Established by Marie Madeleine D’Houet in 1841 Gumley has continued to flourish as a FCJ centre of educational excellence. The education we provide at Gumley is firmly rooted in Gospel values where the intrinsic worth and education of the whole person is paramount. Consequently the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental health of our students is as important to us as their academic studies.

We provide a broad, balanced education where skills are developed and a passion and life-long love for learning is fostered. Students are encouraged to discover new talents and are provided with opportunities and support to realise these talents and enrich ones they already have. In keeping with our tradition we strive to empower our students to become informed, independent, confident, articulate and responsible young women and men.

Gumley has a strong sense of community, characterised by a warm and compassionate atmosphere. We respect and care for each individual and this is the key to our tremendous strength. Our students are given every assistance to be of real service in the local and global community.

Our long standing and established international profile and links provide students with unique opportunities to develop their understanding of the wider world, these include visits to China, India, Kenya and the USA, as well as those closer to home such as Iceland, Lille, Lourdes, Rome, Paris and Valencia. Students achieve greater cultural empathy through these experiences that are also often, life changing for them.

My hope and prayer for every student at Gumley, is that their education here encourages them to develop in ‘Courage and Confidence’ (Marie Madeleine) so that they set no limits on all that can be achieved in attaining their personal goals and playing their part in making the world a better place.

If you still have any questions, after reading this prospectus, call or email us: we are always happy to talk. Best of all, come and see us – if you haven’t already – and meet some of the Gumley students and teachers. They are our best advertisement!
