‘She Can Be’ – The Lord Mayor’s Campaign

Changing Perceptions

To improve gender balance in the corporate world, The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, in partnership with Teach First, The Girls’ Network and Young Enterprise, have launched the ‘She Can Be’ initiative.

On 14th February 2019, numerous businesses were involved in delivering this aim.

Polar Capital Holdings plc. a research driven Investment Company, was the organisation Gumley was lucky to be partnered with, they created a very welcoming and extraordinarily insightful day for our group of Year 10 students, at their London headquarters.

Meeting with a wide range of personnel from fund and product management to compliance, marketing and advertising, students gained an in-depth understanding of the scope of roles and their corresponding responsibilities.

Students’ research, evaluation, teamwork and decision making skills were also put to the test through a range of challenging investment tasks.

Joanna Abeyie, journalist and founder of Hyden Talent chaired the panel discussion in the afternoon session at the Wintergarden in Canary Wharf.

Students working with business mentors & peers from other schools debated solutions to improve women’s long term financial security.

Our evaluations clearly show the positive impact of this initiative, with 90% of our group stating ‘they would be interested in achieving a future career in the corporate finance industry’.
