Amazon Web Services KS3 Project
Encouraging more women into I.T.
Amazon Web Services has created a new riveting project for secondary school students to increase their understanding of the tech world, leading to more women entering this sector. AWS is working in partnership with Future Foundations, an independent training organisation.
Gumley’s two teams of Year 8 students have been tasked with creating an App that solves a community or school problem. Since the autumn, they have shown great dedication in addressing this issue.
AWS Ambassador, Silene Bonato is providing support throughout. She launched the programme in our school last autumn, also making a special feedback visit to the teams in January & she has been part of the following amazing events too:
Boot Camp Day in December at AWS’s offices in the city. A series of workshops run by AWS experts created to expand students’ skills and knowledge.
Women in IT Awards sponsored by Amazon: In January six schools were invited to be part of a networking event held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, incorporating women from a range of organisations. The day also included a fascinating careers fair and a wonderful tea.
Watch this space! March 25th is the deadline for project submissions.
