Gumley House School FCJ

Language Festival 2018

A joyful event celebrating languages and culture

Tuesday 17th July, Gumley celebrated our annual Language Festival. The hugely successful Festival has been running for over 30 years and this year involved over 300 students performing on stage in a foreign language.

From French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese to Farsi, Polish, Romanian and Japanese, the festival celebrates cultural diversity through performing arts.

All students in Year 7 and Year 8 perform , sing, act, recite poems, or dance with flamboyant costumes to share our linguistic and cultural differences in companionship with each other.

This year Ms McGregor, Ms Du Cane and Ms Manzur were the fierce judges and the winners were :

  • Best acting Performance : Year 8 Spanish : La Cenicienta ( Cinderella)
  • Best Acting : Tochi Osuji ( 8M1) for her role as the evil step mother in Cinderella
  • Best Song / dance : Year 8 Chinese with the beautiful fan dance

All performers deserved to win as performing on stage is always a challenge but performing in a foreign language in front of an audience takes courage and confidence and our Gumley girls always step up to the challenge!
