Sarah Hicks ''Highly Commended''
Sarah Hicks received a Highly Commended citation from judges at Cambridge University for her diary contribution after shadowing a university student.
Each year around 250 state school sixth-formers get a taste of undergraduate life on the Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU) shadowing scheme. This year, for the first time, we invited participants to tell us about their experiences in a diary-writing competition.
Almost 60 of the shadowing scheme participants, who come from schools and colleges around the country, took up the challenge and commented on how high the final standards were . The University's judge, journalist and broadcaster, Juliet Rix remarked on Sarah Hick's contribution as being 'highly commended'.
Juliet said that she thoroughly enjoyed reading the entries: "What comes through very strongly is how intense, and how enjoyable, the 'shadow' visitors found their days in Cambridge, and how thoroughly quashed were any illusions of it as a snobbish environment. I wish all the diarists best of luck in their A levels and university applications."
