Gumley supports Mandarin Learning in Primary Schools
After fantastic feedback last year, we have embarked on our second year of teaching Mandarin in four of Gumley’s feeder primary schools:
The Rosary, Heston, St Mary’s, Chiswick, St Mary’s, Isleworth and St James’s, Twickenham
As we are a Confucius Classroom, the Chinese government have given us two excellent ‘Hanban’ teachers, Ms Hong and Ms Yang, to enable us to do this.
Feedback from the primary schools:
Lidia De Freitas, St Mary’s Primary School, Chiswick: ‘‘Mandarin has been a wonderfully interesting and exciting addition to the curriculum at St. Mary’s since its introduction last year All children from Year 1-6 are always fully engrossed in lessons due to the excellent interactive activities, songs and games.
The Rosary, Heston: ‘The teachers have noticed the children are regularly practicing what they have learnt in the playground. It is lovely to see them so confident and excited to learn something new. Our students have told us: “Singing the songs are my favourite, I have taught my little sister them at home.” “I can count to 10 and can say the names of body parts in Mandarin.” “I have collected 4 stickers for being so great in Mandarin. I can’t wait to get a prize.”
Madame Dion-Jones, FL Coordinator, St. James’s Catholic Primary School, Twickenham: “Our Year 2 children have really enjoyed learning Mandarin. They are very curious about Chinese culture and are having a lot of fun speaking the language. I am so impressed with their progress! We have also started a Mandarin after school club this term. Thank you Gumley School for giving us this opportunity”.
