Gumley Sports Day - Inspired by the London 2012 Olympics
Olympic Sports Day – Inspired by the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
440 students including 200 Year 4 pupils from 5 local primary schools, all our Year 7 students plus our Year 10 & Year 11 Sports Leaders, came together to join in the fun. The photo is of some of our sports leaders.
Gumley School organised this event off site; we hired sports areas at St. Mary’s University College Twickenham, a fitting environment we thought! Activities included: Team Building, Tag Rugby, Handball, Boxercise, Tennis, Football, Inflatable Football, Golf, Penalty Shoot-out, Trampolining, Dance Mats & Circus Skills. Many of these were new experiences for the students who approached them with great enthusiasm and energy.
Special thanks to all the staff and parents from the primary schools who brought and supported their students, Gumley Staff particularly our P.E. department, Andy Killick the Sports Co-ordinator involved with Gumley and other local schools as he helped to create the concept for the day and is instrumental in training the sports leaders. We hired Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, led by Luis Melville. They supplied numerous activities as well as trained sport coaches allocated to each activity to ensure the children were correctly instructed. They too were all brilliant.
Year 10 Enterprise students Temi Bashorunwere, Siobhan Longdon-Hughes, Jolanta Noga & Maja Wawryca; were involved in designing the t-shirts with the brief to embody the 7 values of the games.
The finished products which were worn by all the sport leaders on the day brilliantly captured the essence of the event. (See the photo)
