School Production 2008 West Side Story
In 2007/8 we took on the biggest challenge we had faced to date. We decided to produce West Side Story in its 50th anniversary year; probably the greatest musical in the cannon of Hollywood musicals, and certainly the hardest to achieve.
Well, we love a challenge, but this one nearly finished us all off. However, I am delighted to report, it was fantastic in every way. We had an amazing cast and production team who worked tirelessly through 12 long weeks - including Friday night rehearsals - to produce this show. The result was a sold out run of four performances to over 800 people in production week and a very happy if tearful company on closing night.
Richard Lake produced nothing short of a miracle with the orchestra who sounded as good as the soundtrack we had been using in rehearsals. And, as one member of the audience pointed out, how lucky were we to actually have 'Maria' in school - the immensely talented Victoria Ferguson.
All the girls were amazing. They embraced their characters wholeheartedly and gave their hearts and souls to this show. You couldn't ask for more.
